For a first visit, I recommend staying on the central part of the lake, where everything is easily reached by boat. It's the perfect balance of elegance, scenery, and effortless exploration.

While you're there
• Spend an afternoon on a private wooden boat exploring the lake, stop at Hotel Tremezzo for a seafood tower lunch (and a dip in their famous lakeside pool).
• Wander Bellagio and Varenna early in the morning before they become busy, scoop up gelato at Gelateria Lariana on the way home.
• Enjoy private pasta making lessons followed by aperitivo overlooking the water as the boats return for the evening.
